Juneteenth, which celebrates the end of slavery, is being observed tomorrow, Wednesday, June 19. We recognize this day to honor its historical significance and promote unity and inclusivity in the community and within our workplace. On this day in 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, Union soldiers landed in Galveston, Texas, and announced the news of the proclamation to enslaved African Americans there. This was the last area within the United States to learn the Civil War had ended. The legacy of Juneteenth demonstrates the value of remaining hopeful even in times of uncertainty. It was great to see so many associates participating in the Juneteenth Parade and Festival this past weekend. Thank you for showing your support for this pivotal event in our nation’s history.

As we prepare to observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 27, it is important to remember the brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage and strength have shaped the many freedoms we enjoy today. The dedication and selflessness demonstrated by the service members we recognize on this day mirrors how we strive to interact with each other, our members, and community and leaves a significant impact both now and in the future. Our thoughts are with those who have served or lost loved ones in service in protecting the core of independence that Americans cherish and value every day. May this Memorial Day serve as a solemn reminder of their sacrifices. Please join Independent Health in honoring our fallen service members.
