HII is proud that two of HII’s advanced capabilities — the Virginia-class submarine USS Delaware (SSN 791), built by Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of HII, and the REMUS medium unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), built by HII Unmanned Systems — will be operationally deployed together to enhance the mission capabilities of the US Navy. The Yellow Moray system, which facilitates the end-to-end submarine torpedo tube launch and recovery of a REMUS UUV from Virginia-class submarines, is a game-changer, significantly boosting the operational capabilities of the U.S. Navy's submarines and their contributions to our nation's unified combatant commands worldwide. At HII, we are honored to continue our partnership with the U.S. Navy, increasing national security through the innovative integration of our manned and unmanned systems. Together, we are driving advancements that ensure the safety and effectiveness of our armed forces. 📝Story via Naval News by Dr Lee Willett https://lnkd.in/eyS4Z_fr

HII Mission Technologies took part in a table-top exercise organized by the Hudson Institute and the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) the week of July 1. Pictured is HII Unmanned Systems third generation MUUV; the REMUS R620, conducting sea trials this past year. “The exercise focused on the JMSDF's incorporation of unmanned systems,” said Gary Rogeness, senior director of business development in Mission Technologies’ Unmanned Systems business group and a retired submarine officer.“ This event provided an excellent opportunity to showcase Mission Technologies’ wide array of REMUS autonomous undersea vehicles in various scenarios. It also allowed us to offer our close ally valuable expertise in developing future concepts of operations. Special thanks to Bryan Clark, senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, for leading the crucial discussions and ensuring industry representation at this significant event.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/egNrtddK

“The [Lionfish program] is good for the US. It's very modular, very adaptable.” At a recent Hudson Institute panel, Aditi Kumar, Deputy Director, Strategy, Policy, National Security Partnerships at the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), and Andy Green, Executive Vice President of HII and President of Mission Technologies, a division of HII, highlighted the US Navy's Lionfish small unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) program, based on HII’s REMUS 300 UUV, as an outstanding example of the U.S. Department of Defense making strides in tapping into the commercial technology sector for new capabilities. The Lionfish program marks the first time that the U.S. Navy transitioned from a prototype Other Transaction Authority (OTA) contract to a production contract at scale. HII CEO Chris Kastner recently toured our state-of-the-art unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) engineering and production facility in Pocasset, Massachusetts, with Duane Fotheringham, president of HII Unmanned Systems. Joined by HII CFO Tom Stiehle, the visit underscored HII's dedication to leveraging the existing commercially developed REMUS UUV for rapid development and deployment by defense, commercial, and scientific research customers. Our Pocasset facility, part of Mission Technologies, a division of HII, stands at the cutting edge of UUV technology. The Unmanned team currently manufactures small REMUS UUVs for the U.S. Navy's Lionfish program and several large REMUS 620s for delivery to U.S. allies and NOAA. In a recent groundbreaking demonstration of our capabilities, a REMUS UUV successfully completed the first end-to-end launch and recovery from a Virginia-class submarine, which is also built by HII. This achievement showcases our commitment to enhancing the capabilities of legacy platforms through innovative technology.
