Providing reliable utility solutions at the lowest reasonable cost, with exceptional customer service.

About us

Since 1905, Greenville Utilities has been an integral part of Greenville-Pitt County, growing and progressing along with our expanding service area. GUC provides electric, water, sewer and natural gas services to the City of Greenville and 75% of Pitt County. We serve a combined total of more than 135,800 customer connections. Greenville Utilities is owned by the citizens of Greenville but operates under a separate charter issued by the N.C. General Assembly. We are guided and managed by an eight-member Board of Commissioners. The Board is responsible for approving rates, development plans, the annual budget and setting operating and extension policies. Policies are implemented by the General Manager. The City Manager serves as a full voting member; five other Board members are nominated by the City Council, and two are nominated by the County Commissioners. All Board members are approved by the City Council. Our highly-experienced Management Team is dedicated to working together to operate GUC in the best interest of our customers.

  • Join us today - National Automotive Service Professionals Day - to give big kudos to our Fleet Management staff! One of the most visible images our customers associate with Greenville Utilities is our fleet of vehicles and equipment. Employees in the field wouldn’t be able to do their jobs without our trucks, trailers, and equipment being kept in top-notch shape by the hard work and dedication of our Fleet Management staff. They are responsible for 271 vehicles (from pickups and SUVs to bucket trucks), 166 trailers, and 409 pieces of equipment (from chainsaws to bulldozers). Our Master Mechanics have over 140 years of combined experience and factory training in the field of automotive and diesel diagnostics and repair.

  • Thank you for the shoutout! We are always thrilled to host trainings at our facilities. It's a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge and best practices with industry peers. Looking forward to more collaborations! #WaterTreatment

  • Meet Robin Walston, Water Resources Construction Inspector. Robin joined GUC 11 years ago as an Equipment Operator IV before later joining the team of two other Construction Inspectors. This team inspects our water and sewer infrastructure projects that involve outside contractors. They ensure that all extensions to GUC’s water and sewer systems are being constructed according to contract specifications and GUC standards. One of Robin's current projects is inspecting our water installation at the new Acadia Behavioral Healthcare construction site. #employeeappreciation

  • We kicked off our fifth year of participating in Tradesformers with an official signing of three Pre-apprentices last night! Signing on with our Electric Department are Austin Ashley, rising senior at Farmville Central High School, and Bryce Henderson and Victor Teel, rising seniors at North Pitt High School. We are extremely thankful for community partnerships like this one with Tradesformers. These high school Pre-apprentices have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a trade of interest, getting a great head start into a possible career! • We wrap up Infrastructure Week by spotlighting the unsung heroes of water and sewer distribution projects - our Construction Inspectors! We’ve been following Brandon, Robin, and Spencer these past two weeks as they inspect GUC infrastructure projects that involve outside contractors. Our Inspectors ensure that all extensions to GUC’s water and sewer systems are being constructed according to contract specifications and GUC standards. They visit job sites while the projects are in progress to coordinate connections to the existing GUC systems and to provide inspection during the installation of new facilities. Following installations, they monitor systems pressure testing. For water system extensions, they coordinate disinfection and bacteriological testing for water quality assurance. Join us in thanking them for all that they do behind the scenes!

We currently have several intern openings. GUC provides internships, work study, co-ops, and so much more for students in Eastern North Carolina. Our goal is to give students rewarding opportunities and experiences they can carry with them for their lifetime. In addition to working with East Carolina University and Pitt Community College students, we are also part of several collaborative student programs. Check it out! https://lnkd.in/eYVn7qvs

  • Today is National Lineworker Appreciation Day! Two days in April are dedicated to showing appreciation to our lineworkers. April 8th was NC Lineworker Appreciation Day, and April 18th is National Lineworker Appreciation Day. Not only do our linemen keep our power going 24/7, they enjoy helping our community in other ways as well. Just this week, for example, some of our line crews took time to share their career stories, equipment, and line gear with local Pitt County middle school students. Join us once again in sharing our appreciation for these crews who are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those we serve in our community!
