Gilbane is proud to have been appointed as the construction manager for the Virginia Department of General Services' team to replace the Central State Hospital. This facility is set to redefine in-patient behavioral health care, catering specifically to patients requiring acute forensic, secure forensic, and civil commitment services. Notably, it stands as Virginia's sole provider of maximum security forensic behavioral health treatment. Spanning roughly 460,800 square feet, the new building plans to offer 252 in-patient beds, dividing them into 111 for maximum security and 141 for civil usage. The project's comprehensive scope extends beyond patient care, including areas for treatment programs as well as spaces for administrative and support functions. Future expansions have been meticulously planned, with provisions for an additional 48 beds. Architecturally, the facility is to rise as a two-story structure, thoughtfully sectioned into areas for both maximum security and civil patients, flanked by securely enclosed courtyards for outdoor activities, essential for patient rehabilitation and well-being. Moreover, the integration of advanced security, safety, and information technology systems is a critical component, ensuring a safe, efficient, and modern treatment environment. #GilbaneBuildsRVA #HealthcareBuilder
