Congratulations to FBT attorneys Thomas Allen, Ryan Goellner, Kevin Shook, and Ben West, who are the 2024 recipients of the Roll of Honor Award by the Freedom To Read Foundation (FTRF). The Roll of Honor is FTRF’s annual prize recognizing an individual or group that has contributed substantially to the organization’s principles, including the protection of the public’s right of access to information and materials stored in the nation’s libraries. The FBT team was recognized for their pro bono work filing amicus curiae briefs on behalf of FTRF and other library associations in two high-profile First Amendment cases in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. The first case concerns attempted book removals from a public library in Llano County, Texas, and the other addressed an attempted rating system by the State of Texas for books sold to Texas public school libraries. FTRF noted the team’s “dedication, commitment, and insights into the issues” as “valuable to both the briefs and the foundation’s ongoing efforts to battle censorship in courts throughout the country.” Well done to all and congrats on this much-deserved recognition! #ProBono #Recognition #TeamFBT #FirstAmendment #Awards
