Founded in 1969, MSCAA owns & operates Memphis International Airport (MEM), Baker Airport (GA) and Spain Airport (GA).
About us
Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) was founded in 1969 when the name of the airport was changed to Memphis International Airport (MEM). Earlier incarnations of Memphis-based air service date all the way back to 1929 with the name Memphis Municipal Airport. Memphis International Airport, “America’s Aerotropolis” is a world-class facility serving more than 6 million passengers a year. It is the only airport in North America considered to be an “aerotropolis,” an airport-integrated region extending outward from the airport in strings and clusters of airport-linked businesses and their associate residential complexes. Memphis is unique in that it is a nexus of air, road, train, and river traffic and commerce. The Memphis area features: • North America’s busiest cargo airport for 21 consecutive years (2nd in the world) • Third busiest trucking corridor in the U.S. • Third largest rail center in U.S. (five “Class I” rail systems) • Fourth largest inland port in U.S. (Mississippi River) In 2012, the University of Memphis conducted a study of the Memphis airport, and concluded that MEM has an economic impact of $23.3 billion and affects one in four jobs locally.

Busy times at MEM: The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) expects more than 101,000 people to pass through the checkpoint at Memphis International Airport (MEM) during the 4th of July travel period, which will take place between June 27 and July 8. 🏃♂️🧳✈️ With passenger volumes expected to be high and airlines booked to capacity, MEM is strongly recommending that passengers arrive at the airport a minimum of two hours before their scheduled departure time. This is especially important for travelers with early morning flights between 4-7 a.m. More travel tips: https://lnkd.in/eiKgCYXV #july4thweekend

Welcome to the Memphis Airport Police Department (MAPD), Chief Blair! ⭐️ Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) today announced James “Wes” Blair as its next Memphis Airport police chief. With a proven track record in law enforcement, education, and leadership, Blair brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the position. MSCAA’s current and longtime police chief, Jerry Brandon, is retiring in the Fall of 2024. Throughout an extensive search and interview process, MSCAA’s top priority was to identify a candidate with a proven track record of effective leadership, a commitment to public safety and collaboration, and an understanding of the unique airport environment. “Wes Blair comes to Memphis International Airport with nearly three decades of experience in law enforcement. His education, tenure of service, and commitment to public safety speaks for itself. I am confident that he will be a great asset to us and serve in a vital role as we continue to prioritize safety,’ said MSCAA President and CEO Terry Blue. “We are also very grateful to Chief Jerry Brandon, who has served the Airport Authority, and his country prior to that, with honor and distinction.” Full story: https://lnkd.in/dR82EgcA

We welcomed some special guests this past weekend at DeWitt Spain General Aviation Airport - the Ladies Love Taildraggers (IG: @taildraggers) group! They're a group of intrepid women pilots who fly 'taildragger' planes to different cities together, networking and supporting women in aviation. Each plane travels with a pair of high heels on board to let everyone know these planes are piloted by women. 👠💙✈ They stopped in Memphis during their 2024 group flight along the Mississippi River - and of course, no visit to Memphis would be complete without a stop by the Peabody and to Graceland to see the Lisa Marie! Safe travels, ladies!
