In August of 2023, Environmental Quality Management, Inc. as the Emergency and Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor to EPA supported FEMA/EPA with the removal of residential and commercial hazardous waste associated with the devastating wildfires impacting Maui. EQM collected, treated, packaged and arranged the overwater transportation and disposal of over 200 tons of hazardous materials. Additionally, EQM developed a treatment process (to render safe for recycle) over 30 tons of lithium-ion batteries from residential power systems and electric vehicles affected properties. This crucial work prevented further environmental damage and aided the community on its path to recovery. The resilience and unity of Maui's people have been an inspiration throughout this project.
