The new Labour Government has today launched its Strategic Defence Review, looking at a broad range of issues including the current state of the armed forces, and the UK’s ability to respond to the growing geopolitical threats to our security. The Review will be overseen by Defence Secretary John Healey and headed by former Nato Secretary General Lord Robertson, who earlier this year joined us at DGA to share his insights as a leading voice in defence and international security. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has previously said the Review will set out a “roadmap” for how to reach the goal of spending 2.5% of national income on defence – a target he has made a “cast iron” commitment to but is yet to put a timeline on. If you would like discuss how DGA can support your business navigate the details of the Review, reach out to our lead defence partner Will Wallace
We were delighted to host leading defence policy thinker, former NATO Secretary General and UK Secretary of State for Defence, Lord George Robertson, for lunch at our offices last week. Chaired by our defence lead Partner, Will Wallace, this insightful conversation covered the hard choices the UK needs to make in light of current and emerging geopolitical threats, what a future UK Defence and Security Review will need to address, what next for NATO and where alliances like AUKUS are heading. To discuss wider defence, technology and security matters with our team, do drop us a line. #defencepolicy #2024DGAElectionSeries #UKGeneralElection
