There are many types of responsibilities to teach, like household chores, school, taking care of our selves and even responsibility for our actions. When kids learn responsibility, their self-esteem grows, their sense of independence expands and they enhance their problem-solving, time management and accountability skills! Just like everything else in parenting, teaching your kids responsibility takes time, intention, and work. Start with small tasks and build upon these as they accomplish learning new skills. Household responsibilities are a great place to start - check out these helpful tips below. Put on some tunes and sing along while you work or put a timer on and see if you can beat the clock. 👏 Once your child has the hang of a few chores, make a chore chart to help keep everyone on track. 🚫 Avoid the temptation to go back and do it “your way.” This will lead to your child feeling that they can’t do the task themselves. We love to see our staff grow their careers, just like Rosalyn did this year when she became a sleep technologist! Rosalyn took the leap and participated in the Accredited Sleep Technologists Education Program (A-STEP) at Dayton Children’s, a program that offers a blend of classroom learning and hands-on instruction to learn all the skills and knowledge you need to be a sleep technologist, also known as a polysomnographic technologist . Grateful that she participated, Rosalyn shared, “I transitioned from being a team lead in the environmental services department to becoming a registered polysomnographic technologist, thanks to A-STEP. I completed clinical hours, modules, and lots of studying to successfully pass the exam, and now I’m proud to be part of the sleep medicine team!” In partnership with our sleep medicine physicians, Rosalyn uses a variety of tools to perform sleep studies, evaluate sleep patterns, and treat sleep disorders in kids such as insomnia, narcolepsy, sleep apnea and more.
