CyberTruck Challenge is my favorite event of the year. It's two events in one: half for the students and half for us professionals. The students get top-quality education for two days followed by a unique opportunity to hack on the trucks for two days! Professionals get the chance to collaborate and network in a way that just isn't possible at a regular conference. We're all passionate folks who just want to make the industry better. We get a chance to work with academic researchers and industry peers to brainstorm new ideas to just that: Make us all better. I know I've come away with a handful of follow-ups with different people -- a lot of great projects in the works! What's best of all is the community this event builds. It's one of the best, most inclusive communities I've had the privilege of being part of.

Thanks George Alvarez, Nicolas Guibert de Bruet, Amy M. Kofoed, Kiruthika Krishnamoorthy, Gopalsamy Padmanaban at Navistar Inc! We had a great time too! You are correct, we are already working on 2025 (despite the lack of sleep that occurs during a Challenge)! Thank you for supporting us and we look forward to working with your team again in 2025.

Exhaustion and joy rarely go hand in hand but they did last week at the 2024 CyberTruck Challenge 😅. Incredibly honored to serve as the vehicle boss for the Navistar Inc team at the 7th annual event. Proud of our student team for working on our vehicle target and demonstrating the skills they learned. If you are in college and interested in embedded security for vehicles I recommend you lookout for next year's challenge by following their page [above 👆] or connect with Tiffany McDonald. Website: https://lnkd.in/gMzdCHdM Activities like this really seal the deal in understanding the value my role and our work as a community brings to the industry, going to ride the good vibes for the next few weeks 😁 #cybersecurity #vehiclesecurity #automotivesecurity #navistar #cybertruckchallenge

William Decator, Jordan Wallschlaeger, Bhargab Acharya, Nikhil Prakash .J.S Big shout out to these four! Their proficiency, tenacity, and professionalism blew us all away at the Cyber Truck Challenge last week. Please keep in touch guys! Students Jordan, Will, Bhargab, and Nikhil were assigned to the Daimler Truck cybersecurity assessment at this year's CyberTruck Challenge. They accepted the challenge, and in two short (actually very very long) days, they became experts on our vehicle and our telematics portal. They charged through the gauntlet of challenges we put in front of them and impressed us at each step of the way! #futureLeaders #CyberTruckChallenge #securityResearch #pentesting #DaimlerTruck

Meet one of our fabulous trainers who is always a favorite with hands-on Hardware RE: Bill Hass, Principal Cybersecurity Engineer Bill first got involved in the commercial motor vehicle industry during his graduate studies in 2015 as a research assistant in the cybersecurity group at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) where he was lead author of "Truck Hacking: An Experimental Analysis of the SAE J1939 Standard" and spent many hours in semi trucks and buses reversing vehicle systems. While his career has mainly been in the automotive industry, he remains interested in heavy duty vehicles, especially the unique economic, safety, and security impact they have due to their massive size and the breadth of industries that depend on them. This will be his 5th time teaching the multi-hour course on Hardware Reverse Engineering at the CyberTruck Challenge. Originally co-developed for the first CyberTruck Challenge in 2017 with Russ Bielawski, he is refreshing the course again with a guided EEPROM study. Equipped with two low-cost, yet potent open-source tools, Tigard & BitMagic Basic logic analyzer, students will snoop buses, extract firmware, and write hacked firmware against real commercial vehicle ECUs. He supports the challenge because he believes cybersecurity is a community endeavor and investing in and sharing knowledge with students, industry professionals, and hackers is how we all move forward together. Today, Bill is a principal cybersecurity engineer at Lear Corporation where he creates security architectures for connectivity ECUs and leads the technical implementation of ISO 21434. He has 12 years of technical experience in software development and cybersecurity for automotive embedded systems and holds an M.S.E in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Everyone at CyberTruck Challenge is excited when we have the honor of announcing a new sponsor. Welcome to the 2024 CyberTruck Challenge! Samsara is proud to sponsor the Cybertruck Challenge for the first time this year. As a leading provider in vehicle telematics, safety, and visibility, we are heavily committed to ensuring security within our product ecosystem. 🚚🔒 In addition to the security-focused nature of the event, we are thrilled to support an initiative that aligns closely with our core values and operating principles, such as 'win as a team' and 'work backwards from winning'. 💪🤝 As the digital transformation of connected operations progresses, the associated attack surface will inevitably expand. The CyberTruck Challenge plays a vital role in addressing this by raising awareness about the security of heavy vehicles and telematics among students and academia. This initiative is crucial for ensuring robust security within connected operations and heavy vehicle ecosystems. 🛡️🎓 Samsara’s representation includes 💬 Jonathan Stines Offensive Security Engineer, Shane Young Offensive Security Engineer, Ariel Valencia Security Analyst, and David Hartgrove Security Operations Engineer. We are honored to be a part of this year's event and are excited about the mentorship opportunities it presents. Working alongside students as they navigate through the workshops and exercises not only contributes to their growth but also energizes us. Engaging with CyberTruck Challenge and the next generation of security researchers and engineers is a privilege that we eagerly embrace. 🌟🚀🦉 #samsara
