A step in the right direction: after incorrectly reporting the man who shot Donald Trump was Chinese, we sent the New York Post a Letter to the Editor describing how this significantly impacted the Chinese American community. In response, they added an Editor’s Note apologizing for the error. Moving forward, we implore all journalists to engage in the highest standard of investigation in their reporting to prevent such errors in the future. https://lnkd.in/ehcpVkf3

Interesting research taking place by a team from NYU! Details below for anyone who may be a fit to participate in a study about racial encounters in the Asian American community.
Workplace Mental Health Research Associate & Lead Japan Strategy Analyst @ Columbia University Irving Medical Center
We need your help! A research team led by Dr. Lisa Suzuki, Department Vice Chair and Associate Professor of Applied Psychology at New York University, is seeking participants for a groundbreaking study on the emotional impact of racial discrimination on Asian Americans. The study closes on 7/31/24. Our study is an evaluation of the work of Dr. Robert Carter, Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Education at Columbia University. We are specifically examining the emotional impact of racial encounters and how racial discrimination affects Asian Americans in terms of psychological and emotional reactions. This research is approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) and funded by NYU. Participants will be asked to complete a short demographic survey and a series of scales focusing on encounters of racial discrimination, perceived stress, racial identity, and mental health status. We understand that there is an investment of time required but we ask for your support given the current racial dynamics in our country and more specifically how the pandemic has impacted racial incidents targeting Asian Americans. Participation is voluntary, and there are no consequences for choosing not to participate or withdrawing from the study.
