"Martin said that 'from the beginning' Vodafone's intention for its support for Open RAN was to encourage innovation, and that Cohere Technologies USM is a disruption that is a 'perfect example' of what it wanted to achieve." https://lnkd.in/guxpX4HR
Tender is the fight for RAN innovation Vodafone RAN tender could be example of open platform innovation. Vodafone currently has a tender out for a refresh of its base station estate, which it has said is 170,000 base stations, across its European and African operations. The tender has created a stir not just because of its size, but because the operator has hooked it to its Open RAN plans. It says that it wants leverage the tender to bring 30% of its base stations into compliancy with Open RAN specifications. Now, according to the companies involved, including Vodafone itself, at least one vendor could potentially be going into the process with a new capability. The not-so secret weapon is the integration of new software developed by Cohere Technologies, which Vodafone and Cohere say delivers the ability to extract as much as 1.5-2x capacity gains from cell site spectrum. https://lnkd.in/ej-PhZpQ

Last week, in a follow up conversation, Raymond Dolan (CEO & Chairman) and Francisco Martín Pignatelli, Group Head of #OpenRAN, addressed the Spain trial, follow up testing that has been completed since, as well as “what’s next?” and the promise of #NTN. We’re pleased to share a 15-minute conversation between Ray and Paco. **See the video** https://lnkd.in/gqeKUXvQ In late February, Vodafone and Cohere Technologies announced at #MWC24 the successful field testing of Cohere’s USM software in Vodafone’s 5G performance network in the city of Ciudad Real, a dense urban area located 200km south of Madrid, Spain. The field testing involved indoor and outdoor environments. Cohere’s USM software was tested in a field environment using 10MHz of spectrum in the 2.1GHz band. Based on the performance of the USM software in the trial using multiple handsets, when the software is turned on in low-band or mid-band spectrum, it provided a boost in capacity of up to 50% - solving low band and mid congestion in FDD bands. Cohere’s software-based Universal Spectrum Multiplier (#USM) solution offers SU and MU-MIMO benefits to any network — with no changes to existing handsets, antennas and can integrate with existing base stations. The Cohere solution works in all available spectrum, and is trial-proven to solve congestion for low and mid bands. Moreover, it allows #4G and #5G co-existence with USM benefits — without penalizing 5G performance. https://lnkd.in/gcVGcMEi

Cohere's Universal Spectrum Multiplier xApp that has demonstrated up to 2x gains in spectral capacity is based on the Delay-Doppler channel model. This channel model has been extracted from the #OTFS platform. Because the Delay-Doppler channel model is independent of the OTFS waveform, it can be applied to both #4G and #5G. https://lnkd.in/gta_R92T
