Radar point clouds are significantly noisier compared to Lidar point clouds. Therefore, denoising is required initially to utilize the data effectively. To represent the raw data as a point cloud, relatively complex processing is necessary already at a low signal level. [31.05.2024 – Andras Palffy from PercivAI can also be noted that radar point clouds are also significantly sparser than Lidar point clouds. The difference between the number of (useful) points reported by a state-of-the-art radar and lidar can reach two orders of magnitude, i.e., the Lidar is 100x times denser.
