  • Bremer Whyte Partners Alison Hurley and Allison Howard defended the owner of a Los Angeles tavern in a four-week Jury Trial in Downtown Los Angeles. Plaintiff claimed he was struck in the hand with a dart thrown at him by the Co-Defendant, an allegedly drunken patron. Plaintiff argued the mere presence of a dartboard inside the bar was unreasonable, and that our client failed to adhere to the standard of care for employee training and removal of intoxicated guests. Plaintiff argued Co-Defendant committed battery by intentionally striking him with the dart.    Plaintiff asserted that the dart injury resulted in a host of severe medical conditions, including CRPS and Central Sensitization. The claimed injuries allegedly left the 40-year-old Plaintiff totally disabled and unable to work for the rest of his life.   The night before Closing Arguments, Plaintiff demanded $14.9 million to settle, coming down from an earlier demand of $20 million. Plaintiff blackboarded $15.2 million in damages during closing, including $9.5 million for past and future pain and suffering.    The jury returned a complete defense verdict in favor of our client.

  • Bremer Whyte Brown & O'Meara is pleased to report that Partner John Toohey and Senior Associate Nicholas Rodriguez received a complete defense verdict after a 5-week jury trial in Orange County Superior Court. The case involved a multimillion-dollar home in Orange County. Plaintiff had originally suffered a water loss throughout areas of the home. Our client, an Orange County restoration and construction company, was hired to provide on-going estimates and perform demolition. Plaintiff claimed that, in the course of the demolition process, asbestos containing material was disturbed and spread resulting in contamination throughout home. Plaintiff claimed contractor negligence and breach of contract against our client. Plaintiff sought millions against our client in general and special damages for whole home restoration and other related general damages. The jury found in complete favor of our client on all allegations and awarded zero dollars to the opposing party. Congratulations to John and Nick on an incredible results!

  • Meet Elizabeth! Elizabeth was born in Battersea, London and split her time living between both Ghana, West Africa and London, England. Her father went to law school in London and after law school became a judge in Tanzania and Ghana. She was introduced to the legal industry early because her father was passionate about law and justice, and she saw first hand her father's pride in wearing his wig and gown to court. When Elizabeth moved to the U.S. she got her paralegal certificate and started her first job at a criminal and family law firm in Alexandria, Virginia. When she moved to California, she worked for her second firm for 15 years before they closed their doors. She has been with Bremer Whyte for two years and considers our firm her home because of the positive environment, diversity, team atmosphere, and overall integrity the firm provides. Outside of work, Elizabeth spends time with her extended family and three kids. She has encouraged them to shoot for the stars make a positive impact.
