A patient in the Intensive Care Unit was placed on "comfort care" as she approached the end of her life. The family, distraught and grieving, saw the comforting face of Michelle Carrigan, BSN, RN, and found their safe harbor in the storm. Michelle did everything she could for their loved one and supported the family at the same time. But, when her professional obligations were over, Michelle did something extra. As the family wrote "After a long, and what I can only imagine to be stressful day, Michelle clocked out, and chose to spend the remainder of her evening with our family at the hospital. She allowed us to leave the room, gather our thoughts, take a breath of fresh air, and be at peace with our reality." "Michelle sat by my grandmother's bedside for hours, speaking to her, playing her favorite songs, and gently playing with her hair. I'm not sure there are many people left in this world that would go above and beyond the way that Michelle did for our family. In the end, thank you will never be enough." Michelle is now a Daisy Award winner. But we think you'll agree that she was already pretty special. #daisyawardwinner

A new, expanded Orthopedic area has opened in the Health Services Building in Elmira. A ribbon cutting was held yesterday! The expanded orthopedic space on the first floor of the Health Services Building on Madison Avenue will offer greater comfort for patients and enhanced efficiency for staff. The newly renovated space has a much larger footprint to accommodate additional patients, provide a new comfortable atmosphere, has additional exam rooms, and patients can receive comprehensive care at one site for multiple issues. The new equipment can accommodate patients with mobility issues. The location on the first floor and nearer to the main entrance makes for a shorter distance for patients to walk. And having a Lab Draw Station on the same floor saves time
