What do you think?
Is the country ready to take that next step and #privatize #water and #wastewater #infrastructure? The administration's Infrastructure Advisory Council thinks so and has made that recommendation. Among its recommendations, they called for the creation of a federal water department or an equivalent cabinet-level agency to oversee a national strategy to shore up the nation's aging water infrastructure. The water department would, among other things, work with public water system owners "to identify necessary infrastructure #upgrades and determine #funding plans that include local investments, national subsidies, and water #rate increases, when necessary." We all know the substantial need for investment. The government cannot cover the costs. But are we ready for #privatization? Collectively? The President hasn’t commented, but lots of others have. We're proud to be part of setting this right.
Anser Advisory, along with Winstead Law, Communities Unlimited, Water Finance Exchange (WFX), Texas AWWA, @KenRainwater, and Carlos Rubinstein are assisting four communities near City of Lubbock, Texas, establishing https://lnkd.in/eeyeSbGq to bring their drinking water to federal standards. Right now, they may bathe in it (as long as they don’t swallow it) or cook with it, let alone drink it. By working together, they’ll be more competitive for grants and loans. Read their story on the website. If you have a story like that or know a community that does, we can help. Water. It's for life. How about a water sommelier?
This is new. When I think sommelier, I think wine at a high-end restaurant, but “water sommelier” has shown up in the news several times in the last few days. @TexasPublicRadio just carried a piece on a water sommelier from Germany who noticed early on that water has different tastes. This particular sommelier wants people to appreciate the water they have beyond its taste. As he points out, “2.2 million people here in America don't even have access to clean and safe drinking water. They don't have running taps. We need to change that. And that's my job as well as a water advocate, not just as a water sommelier.” He’s not wrong. There are communities in Texas where people, still paying their water bills, know that the water isn’t fit to drink. There’s a lot of work to be done and @TexLeg has allocated $1 billion to get the ball rolling, to get the water flowing and to make sure it continues to flow. #water #waterquality #safedrinkingwater #investment #change Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Texas Water Development Board Texas Water Conservation Association https://lnkd.in/eTuajWi5
