It can be challenging to onboard a remote employee. I have found it to be helpful having their first introduction call with IT at the beginning of the day to ensure all their equipment and system accesses have been set up properly and HR mid morning to provide policies and other helpful information for their ensure success.

I feel communication in HR is critical, be it be within the team or with employee stakeholders. Now, when a team member is joining remotely, he would not have the on-ground interactions with both the peer groups stated above. Thus, its important we familiarise him with different communication channels, i.e, Formal and Informal. More emphasis should be on informal channels. Personally, I have faced this challenge where I was working remotely and the entire team was at office, it becomes way too difficult for you to engage and one feels left out. As an HR Ops person, communication is our forte and we must use it to the best of it. :)
