Having worked remotely for some time, I've realized that the key to successful virtual meetings isn't just about the technology but also about fostering a sense of connection and engagement. It's important to create an agenda and share it in advance, so everyone knows what to expect and can come prepared. This helps keep the meeting focused and productive. Another valuable practice is scheduling meetings just to socialize with colleagues, mimicking the casual interactions we usually have in an office environment. These informal catch-ups can help build camaraderie and strengthen team bonds, making the remote work experience more enjoyable and cohesive.

Virtual meetings need careful planning beyond the platform, agenda, and time zones. Convenience and personalized follow-up with team members are crucial. I have at some points skipped some meetings due to scheduling conflicts without my personal input. Involvement in the meeting day planning process would be beneficial as decision-making involves prioritizing interests and considering urgency, aligning with communication norms that emphasize effective communication and collaboration.

Integrate automated testing and continuous integration tools to ensure code stability. Communicate via tools like Slack/Teams for real-time collaboration. Document code functionality and updates comprehensively to aid future maintenance and onboarding. These practices ensure efficient collaboration and high-quality code across distributed teams.

Knowledge sharing is crucial as far as collaboration is concerned. I have seen colleagues, engineers or other IT Support personnel reach out to me and say, we have this or that challenge and I'm like ok since I couldn't come over and the matter requires urgent attention, let's connect through a media platform, share your screen etc. I have found that this has really helped me as a person to think outside the box relating to those moments, 99% of the time it has helped me develop a new improved way of addressing problems. And at various points it has also enhanced my research or extended collaborations as well by reaching out to other experts in the field. It's really amazing, it makes you get better and see things from different angles.

I am visiting India this summer while my some of my team members are back in the United States, which is why I am able to relate to many aspects of this discussion. One of the things I have felt vital in team coordination is project management. Now I am not suggesting that this issue is supposed to be managed by a Project Manager. I am emphasizing on becoming our own Project Manager by taking responsibilities of various tasks, showing up in meetings, keeping track of team progress and sprints just to make sure we are on track. Being taking such authority for iur own self we ensure that our contribution is at par and our teammates are also comfortable with us being in different country.
