Happy Tuesday everyone Our very own Ian Whitear + Clare Acfield attended an event organised by Women in Architecture UK @ the RIBA's HQ last Thursday Some very interesting takeaways...... Have a good day!
Good morning! Last Thursday I attended the extremely informative Women in Architecture UK event, Juggling two lives: At work and At home' with my colleague Clare Acfield. Hosted by Judith Topley @ the RIBA HQ in central London. Such a positive and hugely informative talk so thank you very much to all the key speakers involved. Will definitely be attending more events like this in the very near future. I thought I would be slightly different with my format for the key takeaways:- * Policies - one size definitely doesn’t suit all. More consistency needed * Flexibility/adaptability/fairness * Trust & honesty * Communication & openness * Close colleague relationships and understanding * Financial constraints for both employer & employee * Setting the right tone * Consider your employer * Sharing responsibility with colleagues * Don’t make demands * Just do it and make it work! There were also some very interesting ideas discussed covering how to assist employees with juggling work and family life during the holidays:- * Offering employees the opportunity to WFH during all school holidays * Organising a day for all staff to bring their children into the office Definitely some good food for thought! Thanks again for the organisers, speakers and attendees. And I even managed to be interviewed on my way out! Ian

Here's to those client meetings that extend beyond the boardroom and into the dessert menu! 🍰🍨 There's something special about a client who offers you a spoonful of their dessert. It's more than just a sweet gesture—it's a signal of trust and camaraderie that often foretells a successful partnership. When the formality of suits and handshakes gives way to the informality of shared treats, you know you've found a good client. Such moments symbolise a break in the barriers, a step closer towards genuine connection, and inevitably, fruitful collaboration. It's these relationships that transcend the transactional and venture into the realm of friendship where mutual respect is the main ingredient, and success is a shared endeavour. Remember, it's not about the dessert; it's about the sharing. In an ever-competitive landscape, those who understand the value of building real relationships are the ones who thrive. So next time your client slides that dessert plate over, know that it's about so much more than satisfying a sweet tooth—it's a taste of great things to come. 🤝 (Picture from Bibo Restaurant in Shoreditch where I met one of our lovely clients....and yes I had a bit of both 😉) #ClientRelationships #PartnershipGoals #SweetSuccess White Space Recruitment
