Robotics and automation can significantly boost productivity for manufacturing companies, supporting with dull, dirty, and dangerous tasks. One area of growing interest are “cobots” which aim to automate processes with human-robot collaboration in mind. Despite the attention around cobots, many SME’s find it difficult to identify automation and integrate this into their processes, holding concerns over associated risks of adoption. Within ‘A Guide to Human-Robot Collaboration in Manufacturing’ we highlight the benefits of human-robot collaboration whilst addressing common misconceptions and demystifying some of the language used. Information is provided on the process of implementing automation and human-robot collaboration, increasing understanding, and allowing more informed decisions to be made on a transition to a human-robot collaborative working environment. Check out our XSPEE3D in action. Capable of being moved to point of need and producing metal parts on demand at 100g/minute direct from CAD files, we’re working to assess this technology capability as part of our drive to develop a resilient UK defence supply chain. Currently the only one available for corporate use in Europe, we’ll be running demonstrations at DVD2024 in September in partnership with our member SPEE3D. Want a closer look? Got applications that could benefit from this technology? Come and see it in action at DVD. Reach out to our team John Stretton, Anthony McAndrew and James S. to arrange a meeting and find out more about our capabilities to support the UK defence sector, from cutting edge advancements in digital engineering and robotics and automation, to how we’re supporting supply chain resilience and future skills. The MTC demonstrated the ability to successfully cut ultra-thin ceramic tiles with a laser, yielding high-quality cuts free of microcracks. The ceramic substrates for active metal brazing (AMB) that may be made with these cutting techniques are ideal for high voltage and current circuit boards, which are commonly seen in power electronics assemblies. Power electronic substrates are essential structures for placing semiconductors and interconnects on in order to create electronic circuits with long-term performance through robustness and effective thermal shock resilience. This was the challenge we faced in this study due to the drive for electrification in the automotive sector.
