Each year on 23 June, International Women in Engineering Day celebrates the amazing work that women engineers around the world are doing to enrich lives and communities.
“Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to understand how things work, and that’s what drew me to engineering. Today’s world is changing more rapidly than we are able to adapt, and when I look at the future of our planet and the future of our children, I feel more passionate and convinced than ever that engineering plays a critical role in anticipating and solving problems,” says Study Group Provost and Chief Academic Officer, Professor Elena Rodríguez Falcón FREng PFHEA FIET FCMI 🌈, who is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. “Engineering is fundamentally about how we make the world better every day to improve everyone’s lives. To solve global problems, we need diverse skills, and women can offer a unique and distinctive perspective to this process".
As a former international student herself, Professor Elena Rodríguez Falcón FREng PFHEA FIET FCMI 🌈– who was instrumental in the creation of the New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering – shares Study Group’s passion for developing and delivering impactful education initiatives and programmes worldwide.
“There is still much more to be done, as we are still a very long way away from inspiring and attracting half of the population into the field of engineering,” says Elena. “If fifty percent of the population are women, fifty percent of engineers should be women. This is not just a missed opportunity, but a waste, as we risk missing out on the vast potential and novel insights that women can offer. It’s also a missed opportunity for women who perhaps have not realised how much of a fun, transformational, and good prospect a career in engineering can be.”
At Study Group we’re proud to join in celebrating the achievements of women in engineering as they literally help shape the world of the future.
