How to use Leading Minds trainee competencies framework: Set Clear Development Goals - Based on the initial assessment, set clear, measurable development goals for (with) each trainee. These goals should be aligned with the competency framework and tailored to individual needs. The benefits: - Setting explicit goals helps establish clear expectations for both trainees and their supervisors. This clarity enhances accountability, as progress can be regularly reviewed and discussed. - Clear and measurable goals facilitate objective assessment of trainee progress. This helps both the trainee and the firm to track improvements, identify areas for further development, and ensure that the training is effective. - Clear development goals prepare trainees for future roles within the firm. By systematically developing required competencies, trainees are better equipped to take on more responsibilities and advance in their careers. - Trainees with specific, achievable goals are more likely to stay motivated and engaged. Clear goals provide a sense of direction and purpose, encouraging trainees to invest effort in their development. - Aligning individual goals with the firm's competency framework ensures that training efforts support the broader strategic objectives of the firm. This alignment promotes a cohesive and standardised approach to professional development. #trainees #competencies #L&D #lawfirms #leadinglawyers #futureleaders

This week we’re sharing guidance on how our new competency-led trainee programme can support your firm to overcome the common challenges with trainee development, including: - Unclear Evaluation Criteria: Unclear or subjective evaluation criteria can lead to confusion about performance expectations and areas for improvement - Disjointed Training and Development: Off-the-shelf content that’s not reflective of your overarching training and development strategy and tailored to your specific needs - Lack of Consistency Across Offices: For firms with multiple offices, inconsistent training across different locations can lead to disjointed messaging and inconsistent developmental experiences - Lack of Cultural Context: Training that’s not aligned to your firm's culture and strategic goals can undermine the development of suitable future leadership pipelines Contact Claire Williamson for more information on how to use our new trainee competencies to support junior talent development at your firm. #trainees #SQE #Learninganddevelopment #lawfirms #legalsector

As a main provider of training in the legal sector, we have spent the last 18 months working closely with early adopter firms as they prepare for their move to the SQE route to qualification. In May 2024 we ran a sector survey to get an up-to-date picture of where firms are with the SQE transition. Are you in agreement with the 72% of firms in our recent report who stated that trainees did not have the knowledge and skills required of them to navigate the commercial realities of their role? CLOSING THE JUNIOR LAWYER COMPETENCIES GAP Through our extensive work with early talent teams, trainees, supervisors and leaders, as well as our partnerships with early adopters of the SQE pathway, we have spent the last 18 months identifying what the current competency gaps are for trainees and how firms can close these gaps to ensure juniors meet the required level of competence at qualification. As a result, we have developed a new competency-led trainee programme designed to: - Reduce your firm's resourcing requirements for training needs assessments - Provide your firm with a research-based set of competencies to benchmark trainee development against - Ensure your talent pipelines are equipped with the key intrapersonal and interpersonal competencies required to navigate a client-led VUCA legal sector - Equip your junior talent with a clear understanding of the expectations on them - Support wider business objectives including adherence to SRA best practice recommendations on supporting junior talent Arrange a call with Claire Williamson to discuss this further in relation to your trainees. info@leadingmindsglobal.com https://lnkd.in/eHZpapCD #trainees #juniortalent #leadinglawyers #talentpipelines
