💡 What are your thoughts on making climate resilience a reality? 💡 The UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) have developed a Climate Resilience Roadmap to help us get there, which we've been supporting as part of a collective industry effort. Now, they want to hear from you. They're running an industry-wide consultation on their proposal from now until August 7th and invite everyone from across the built environment to share their thoughts. Find out how you can take part below 👇

📝 What would a climate-resilient UK built environment look like, and how can the industry achieve it? We have a proposal, and we need your feedback.  UKGBC is co-creating a UK Climate Resilience Roadmap - a practical, evidence-based guide to help the industry adapt to climate change, protect people, and support ecosystems.  From now until the 7th of August we’re looking for built environment professionals from across the value chain to give us feedback on our proposal for this Roadmap and share your insights on what a climate-resilient built environment looks like to you. 🖱️ Learn more and respond here: https://lnkd.in/gC_Z5Bsi We’d like to thank our Resilience & Nature Programme Partners, for their support: Buro Happold, Hoare Lea, Hydrock now Stantec, and JLL And Project Partners: Arup, EQUANS, Greengage Environmental Ltd, Mace, PRP, Ridge and Partners LLP, Zurich Resilience Solutions #UKClimateResilienceRoadmap  Hannah Giddings Macarena L. Woohoo! We've been shortlisted in not one but two categories in this year's Building Awards 🎉💙🎉 We're absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for Engineering Consultant of the Year - giving us the chance to retain our crown, while our Welsh project Hafod Morfa Copperworks is up for Retrofit Project of the Year! Transforming Hafod from an industrial ruin to a modern distillery and visitor centre has been a labour of love for our team in Wales, and we're really hoping it can keep up its award-winning trajectory. The winners will be announced in November. Watch this space! Check out the full shortlist here: https://lnkd.in/etEHqwXj Building Magazine #BuildingAwards

Did you know that your morning shower could be contributing more to climate change than your daily commute? Shocking, but it's true – heating our homes and buildings accounts for over 50% of European energy consumption. Decarbonising this sector isn't just rhetoric; it's the key to unlocking a sustainable future. In our opinion, we risk missing our net zero targets if we don’t embrace existing sustainable options when decarbonising the heating and cooling of our buildings. Want to explore how we can adopt a climate-friendly way to stay warm? Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gDwMeeRC #decarbonisation #heatdecarbonisation #sustainability #renewableenergy

Porters bar in the centre of Cardiff is something of a cultural legend. So, when the time came for the beloved music venue to move, our Technical Director of Acoustics, Tom Quaife-Jones, and his team jumped at the chance to help them out. The new building was a Victorian-era former warehouse that needed extensive work, especially with managing noise breakout. Our team worked with the venue’s limited budget to ensure they got the best performance for the least cost, along with meeting Cardiff Council's acoustic requirements. And last week, their hard work making Porters' new home equally legendary was highly commended by the judges at the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) awards in the Environmental Noise: Non-infrastructure category. Congratulations on the well-deserved nod, Tom and team! 👏👏 #acoustics #noise #environmentalnoise #musicvenues

What does Labour's general election victory mean for Scotland's role in helping the UK meet its net zero goals? Hydrock, now Stanec's Josh Bullard looks at what needs to be on the agenda for Keir Starmer: “A Labour victory marks a significant change for the UK, particularly with the Party’s notable gains in Scotland, where the Scottish National Party has governed for 17 years. “While considerable progress in grid decarbonisation has been made, Labour’s majority now necessitates some serious thinking about Scotland’s role in the UK's pathway to net zero. Scotland is the UK’s powerhouse for clean energy, with offshore wind being particularly significant. Keir Starmer's plan should aim to maximise Scotland's energy potential for the benefit of the entire UK, alleviating pressure on the grid to facilitate housing, infrastructure, and our increasingly technology-led lives. “Upgrading the grid, however, isn’t just about integrating wind turbines and solar panels; electrifying heat is a pivotal step for decarbonising our economy. To achieve this, we should prioritise decentralised heat networks. Despite its extensive renewable electricity generation, Scotland has the lowest share of heat supplied by renewable sources in Europe, highlighting the need for a more comprehensive approach in the UK. “If Starmer is serious about achieving net zero by 2030, then he must prioritise capturing and distributing Scotland's renewable energy more effectively than previous governments. This demands significant long-term investment and planning, which cannot be delayed any longer. The formation of Great British Energy is hopefully the first stepping stone in this process.” See Josh's comments in BE News' roundup of industry reaction to the election result: https://lnkd.in/emhGaqjb #election #netzero #decarbonisation
