Congratulations to Re-turn, retailers and stakeholders in the Republic of Ireland for going live with the deposit return scheme (DRS, “pantsystem” in Swedish) for used beverage containers today! A DRS is a very effective way to dramatically reduce littering and carbon emissions from the use of beverage containers. This is enabled by the closed loop recycling in a DRS – where a can or a bottle becomes a new can or a bottle. Ireland is the 6th European country to adopt DRS in the last 2 years, and the 16th European country overall to embrace DRS. Sweden is a pioneer launching its DRS in 1984! Many more countries plan to launch DRS in the coming years including but not limited to Poland, Czech Republic, UK and Singapore. RVM Systems are proud to be the dominant reverse vending machine (RVM) supplier in the Irish DRS Market, thanks to the trust from our customers and partners! As part of the national Deposit Return Scheme launching on February 1st, #SuperValu and #Centra, are investing €28m in Reverse Vending Machines as part of their continued commitment to building more sustainable communities. 🌍 This initiative encourages responsible recycling by applying a fully refundable deposit on bottles and cans: ♻ 15 cents for 150ml - 500ml ♻ 25 cents for over 500ml - 3 liters SuperValu and Centra have installed Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) in 540 stores across the 26 counties in Ireland, ahead of the launch on February 1st. With a total of 667 Reverse Vending Machines, the scale and geographical spread of Reverse Vending Machines in our stores ensures that customers in both large and small communities can conveniently return their items.
