That has been a great experience for us to actively participate in Second edition of the Sea Ports 2030 Congress held in Sopot. The greatly cross insights event, connecting all stakeholders of the industry, drafting in together the ministerial, logistics services, digital, technological solutions and university representatives, where nowadays and future challenges in logistics, port operation activities, along with energy transition and digital developments can be shared. Tomasz Pietrewicz participated in one of the discussion panel "Effective management of cargo flow and port infrastructure" sharing the experience and insights.

A new electric forklift at HES Gdynia terminal 🌍 An electric fleet of handling equipment will play an important role in supporting HES Gdynia strategy for reducing its emissions. The terminal currently has eight electric cranes and other EVs supporting daily operations. Last week a new electric forklift has arrived at the terminal to help cutting carbon footprint from handling. HES Gdynia terminal plans to use low-carbon fuels for other equipment throughout its fleet that are not electrified yet and also evaluates new opportunities for usage as new renewable fuels become available. The less efficient vehicles will be replaced in time with cleaner hybrid or electric alternatives. All that is a part of the sustainable strategy of HES Gdynia to fulfil climate goals while meeting the needs of our customers and maintaining a robust, safe and efficient operation.

The largest soybean meal shipment in history of HES Gdynia!   The bulk carrier CSSC Le Havre with an animal feed commodity on board has arrived at HES Gdynia terminal on Friday morning. The 120.000 dwt vessel is more than 254 m long and has the draft of 12,8 m. CSSC Le Havre has brought to our terminal over 88.000 tons directly from the port of Santos in Brazil, breaking the previous record for the largest soybean meal shipment volume at HES Gdynia, which was won by the capsize vessel Maran Astronomer in March last year with over 57.000 tons. HES Gdynia terminal is well capable and equipped to handle vessels of this size and operates storage capacities dedicated for agriculture commodities that accommodate such volumes in its warehouses. The main seaways in port of Gdynia have been recently deepened to 16,00 m and soon HES Gdynia terminal will be handling its commodities on the deeper draft of 15,00 m. With more accessible entrance for larger vessels in port of Gdynia and our new storage capacities of 64.000 tons being under construction, we are looking forward to larger shipments in the near future.

Expansion of the grain capacities at HES Gdynia terminal 🌾   The new HES Gdynia flat warehouse for the additional 64.000 tons of grains is shaping up. Most of the underground work and infrastructure for bottom discharge operations will be soon fully over, getting walls up in progress, roof and other conveyor system to follow, for the facility to be up and running at the end of the year. With the extra capacity HES Gdynia will be able to offer higher level of efficiency, quality and capabilities to play an essential role in logistical supply chains, underpinning the terminal as the reliable logistic grain partner, strategically positioned for domestic and non-domestic supplies. The terminal in Gdynia is well located to support grain and animal feed trade, along with a diverse range of bulk commodities being exported and imported to worldwide destinations.

On Friday morning, while ongoing handling operation two terrorists stormed onto the vessel at HES Gdynia and incapacitated the crew. Unfortunately, whilst the incident one of the crew members got severely injured from falling down the cargo hold. It was luckily just a devised scenario of the ISPS drill, testing individual elements of the ISPS plan at HES Gdynia, most of all: communications, co-ordination, resource availability and response. The drill was held by the HES Gdynia Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) with participation of the police (anti-terrorist squad, pyrotechnic group), fire and rescue dept, SSO and Port Gdynia security. The goal was to exercise together different risk scenarios and prepare for potential problems, like capturing terrorists, securing the explosion, rescuing an injured person in difficult ship conditions. October at HES Gdynia also abounded in practical trainings for all our employees to refresh first aid skills and to react safely in hazardous situations.   Appreciations for our HSE team and PFSO for organising such hands-on trainings!

The bulk carrier Pyxis Ocean set sails for further voyage 💨 🚢   The Pyxis Ocean discharge operation at HES Gdynia ran smoothly, with no difference to other operations of bulk carriers. We feel greatly excited that we could get such a unique and valuable experience.   It seems inevitable that wind propulsion, such as WASP systems, will play a significant role in tackling greenhouse gas emissions, along with cleaner fuels, therefore we do hope to welcome WindWing sails vessels in HES Gdynia again!   Thank you! to all parties involved in the project and service in port of Gdynia for the greatly synced collaboration. fot. A pioneering wind-powered Pyxis Ocean has arrived today at HES Gdynia terminal! The MV Pyxis Ocean, a bulk carrier with WindWings technology onboard, called at our terminal HES Gdynia on Sunday. The lady has 37.5-meter-tall wings and uses wind power to help propel the vessel, reducing the amount of fuel used to cut down carbon emission. MV Pyxis Ocean originally had set sail on her maiden voyage from China to Brazil, then three weeks ago sailed on from Brazil to Europe to finally arrive at HES Gdynia terminal in Poland with over 60.000 tons of feed stuff for one of our agriculture customers. “This is an exceptional and novel operational experience for us to handle a vessel with such a green power technology that is aimed to impact distinctively greenhouse gas emissions in maritime transport. Excellent prove of trust, great cooperation and strategic alignment among us and our business partners. We feel proud to be the first seaport terminal in Poland to service such an innovative vessel” – said Tomasz Pietrewicz, Managing Director.
