This event, which took place at the Piraeus 260 venue of the Athens Epidaurus Festival on June 20-21, 2024, featured esteemed artists, and facilitated valuable discussions on contemporary scenography and sustainability. Living Waste-Free: Tilos, the Small Greek Island Sets an Example for Big Cities Around the World The island of Tilos, in the Aegean Sea, obtained "zero waste" certification in 2023. On June 20, during the inauguration of PCAI's Shinrin Yoku exhibition in the Diomedes Botanic Garden, Athanasios Polychronopoulos, Polygreen CEO and Kika Kyriakakou, PCAI Artistic Director welcomed His Excellency the Ambassador of Japan Mr. Koichi Ito and his wife Mrs. Misako Ito. The Ambassador and his wife were given a private tour in the exhibition and the garden and had the chance to discuss the notion of shinirin yoku and how it inspired the artists and the curator of the show. The exhibition is taking place under auspices of the Embassy of Japan in the context of the 2024 Year of Tourism and Culture Japan-Greece. More information at pcai.gr

Polygreen Culture and Art Initiative PCAI was a proud creative supporter of the Reception organised by the British Embassy in Greece, British Council and the British School at Athens in the Byzantine Museum in Athens on the occasion of King Charles birthday celebrations on June 17. PCAI and British Council presented Ilias Madouros’ films capturing the Tilos artist residency and the works of Resolve, Hypercomf and the New Raw as well as Resolve’s new fanzine, outlining  the collective’s creative collab with the children and the people of Tilos!

The 700+ residents of the Greek island of Tilos brought the island's #recycling rate to a record high of 89.2% during a two-year period. Led by Polygreen eco, a circular economy solutions company, Tilos is one of the world's most successful zero-waste projects, and is being studied by INSEAD's Sustainable Business Initiative (SBI) to identify ways to scale the impact globally. Consisting of Professors Atalay Atasu, Luk Van Wassenhove, Amitava Chattopadhyay, and University of Minnesota - Carlson School of Management’s Professor, Necati Ertekin, SBI's ongoing research was recently presented to Greece's Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and other government officials. On April 15th, during the 9th Our Ocean Conference, we co-hosted with the South Aegean Region the side event “Sustainable Tourism in the South Aegean Region & Global Innovation” Our Business Innovation & Solutions Director George Stengos presented the Just Go Zero Tilos program, which serves as a lighthouse for the EU and as a global innovative methodology for transitioning to a new behavioral model that transforms society, shifting to a zero waste life model. Our guest speaker Geneviève Pons-Deladrière, Director General and Vice-President of EJD, presented actions for mainstreaming the zero waste island model across Greece and the EU, while Mr. Pascal Lamy, Vice-President of EJD, Chair of the ‘Starfish Mission restore our Ocean, seas and waters’, highlighted the importance of a multistakeholder approach to arrive at innovative solutions. We thank the South Aegean Region for co-hosting this side event, and namely George Hatzimarkos, Governor of the South Aegean Region, as well as the guest speakers Kathrin Möllers, Director of Sustainability and ESG at TUI Group, Dimitris Sakipis, Director of ESG, Sustainability and Climate Change at PwC, as well as Cheryl Novak, Sustainability Expert at The Rhodes Co-lab and panel coordinator of the side event.
