Ninety percent of global goods are transported via sea freight, making the transition to sustainable alternatives and the introduction of #AlternativeFuels a priority. The #GreenGasMobilitySummit24, an engaging panel moderated by Raul Villa Caro (Secretary of the Exponav Foundation), featured various companies discussing their efforts to enhance sector competitiveness and promote the use of clean fuels, such as #LNG, #bioLNG, #hydrogen and its derivatives.   Speaking at the summit, Nacho de Miguel, Head of Alternative Fuels & #Sustainability at Peninsula, stated “The introduction of alternative fuels is a capital-intensive process requiring commitment from suppliers, shipowners, operators, and primarily, administrations and port authorities. In fact, the supply of low-carbon fuels has mainly taken off in international bunkering hubs with significant administrative support". #energyflowing

July 15th marks Marine Day in Japan, also known as "Umi no Hi." This national holiday, established in 1996, celebrates Japan's deep connection to the ocean and its maritime heritage. Marine Day has become a cherished tradition, with festivities and customs that families across Japan look forward to each year. Sayaka Kitaura, a Trader in our Tokyo office, highlights the cultural and environmental significance of Marine Day. It's a time to appreciate the ocean's gifts and recognise its critical role in Japan's history and daily life. Communities come together to engage in activities that honour the sea and promote conservation efforts. On this special day, Sayaka enjoys heading to the beach with her family, participating in various seaside activities, and savouring the fresh seafood that Japan is famous for. Reflecting on her favorite Marine Day memory, Sayaka shared: “Marine Day has always been close to my heart because it celebrates our bond with the ocean. Marine Day has become a well-established holiday nowadays, and it is combined with the weekend to allow us a three-day holiday. Some people might go to the beach. For me, when I was a child, our family went on short trips to the seaside every year. My hometown is not by the sea, so I enjoyed it a lot. Even now, I still want to go to the seaside, and recently, I have been taking up surfing.” #energyflowing #peninsulapride #UminoHi #Japanmarineday

July 4th is synonymous with Independence Day in the United States. The birthday of the United States of America was established in 1776. Since then, July 4th celebrations have been passed on from generation to generation to create traditions that are followed meticulously by families across the Country.    Paige Conlin, a Trader in our Houston office, is quick to reiterate the sense of pride associated with Independence Day. It is a day to reflect on history and be thankful for the freedom that is afforded to her, and a day to be celebrated with family and friends. As a national holiday, summertime festivities are usually in full swing, so is usually a joyous gathering of the local community to celebrate collectively. It's an activity filled day and Paige will be sporting the patriotic red, white and blue whilst sailing over to the beach followed by a pig roast with her nearest and dearest. When asked for a fond memory she answered: “It’s my favourite holiday because it’s summer boating season in the town I grew up in. As a family we would walk to an event in town called Artist on the Lane, and the rest of the day is either spent sailing on the bay, swimming at the beach on Fire Island, or enjoying a BBQ/pig roast whilst playing outdoor games. Then it’s time to watch the fireworks! My favourite spot is viewing them from the Yacht Club crow’s nest where we can see them shoot off across Long Island.” #IndependenceDay #July4 #USA #EnergyFlowing #Bunkering #AlternativeFuels

Las Palmas has always been a major hub for Peninsula, but as disruptions to global shipping persist, it's more important than ever to look at how to react to continued increases in regional demand. That's why this year's Maritime Week Las Palmas was a particularly pertinent fixture in the industry calendar. We had some great conversations with our friends at #MWLPA24 about the future of bunkering in the Canaries, and our Head of LNG, Alternative Fuels & Sustainability, Nacho de Miguel, spoke about the need to transition to alternative fuels to achieve industry targets and help meet vital climate goals. #energyflowing #LNG #Bunkering #LasPalmas #sustainability

Today, on Seafarers Day, we celebrate and honour the dedication, hard work, and resilience of the seafarers who are the backbone of our operations at Peninsula. Their commitment to professionalism and safety at sea ensures the smooth sailing of our services and contributes significantly to the global maritime industry. We want to introduce you to three individuals who ensure our operations are carried out efficiently and safely. Captain Francisco Guerrero, from the Spanish city of Cadiz, where his coastal upbringing led him to a career at sea, spanning numerous vessels, including roll-on roll-off ships, liners, passenger ships, and now bunker barges. He has commanded several Peninsula supply vessels, such as the Gibunker 100, Alian Spirit, Hercules 100, and currently the Patagonia 100, operating in ports like Gibraltar, Algeciras, Barcelona, and Las Palmas. Capt. Guerrero loves the thrill of navigating the seas but misses his family when away. Ashore, he quickly immerses in life on land, making the most of his time. Chief Officer Gienadij Laszewicz, originally from Azerbaijan, moved to Poland 10 years ago. Arriving without being able to speak Polish or English, he took on various jobs doing whatever he could to survive until he met his now wife, whose family had a long history of seafaring and was inspired to pursue maritime studies, ultimately obtaining his master's license. He began his maritime career with a Danish oil company, working on bunkering ships in the perilous North Sea, navigating through Iceland and around icebergs, even reaching the Bering Strait. Chief Officer Laszewicz now serves as Chief Officer on the Gibunker 100 with Peninsula. He values his current position for its enhanced safety and the opportunity it provides to support his family while spending quality time with them. At just 25, Captain Isabel Castiello has rapidly advanced at Peninsula. Originating from Asturias, Spain, her passion for the sea led her to pursue a Degree in Maritime Navigation. After an internship aboard the Gibunker 100, she quickly rose through the ranks from Second Officer to First Officer, and in April 2022, she became Peninsula’s first female barge captain. Captain Castiello oversees vessel manoeuvring and crew safety, emphasising strong teamwork and operational efficiency and the safety of her crew. Known for her intelligence and determination, she navigates the seas with confidence, turning challenges into valuable lessons. Isabel now thrives in her ocean "office," showcasing her expertise and dedication. We are immensely proud of ALL our seafarers and grateful for their unwavering commitment. Join us in celebrating Seafarers Day by sharing your messages of appreciation and support in the comments below. Together, we sail stronger! #EnergyFlowing #SeafarersDay #SafetyAtSea #MaritimeIndustry #PeninsulaPride #OneGlobalTeam
