[Welcome to the Team, Jan!] Joining Dioxycle as Senior Stack Engineer! We are super excited to announce that Jan Roßberg has joined the team at Dioxycle. Jan's role is to focus on the scale up of our cell and stack design at the industrial scale and to strengthen (literately sometimes) our team's mechanical development. Jan previously worked as an R&D engineer in the automotive industry, as well as in the electrolysis industry, where he supported the development of one of the world’s leading electrolyzer manufacturers before joining Dioxycle. Welcome to the Team again, Jan! – we are looking forward to fight climate change together!

It was great to spend some time with Mike Schroepfer (Gigascale Capital), Manik Suri (GlacierGrid) and Harry McCracken (Fast Company) and bring the climate topic on Collision Conference center stage. I was in particular excited to highlight how 1) energy efficiency and 2) scalability (in particular through modularity) are paramount criteria in energy transition technologies. With the available renewable power expected to remain a bottleneck in the next decade as electrification (and computing power requirements) intensify, Dioxycle is set to develop the most energy-efficient route to make ethylene from recycled carbon with the ultimate potential to displace over 1% of the world's CO2 emission. Our modular approach of building cells that assemble into stacks, which can in turn be parallelized, also sets us on track for ultra-high CapEx reduction over time. By building 1,000 of a single unit, we gain 1,000 times more opportunities to learn and improve, rather than constructing a single plant that is 1,000 times larger and we've seen the benefit of this approach through the solar revolution.

As momentum to decarbonize our chemical industry grows, a recent report from the Green Alliance highlights one of the key obstacles on the path to net zero: "90 per cent of today’s carbon-based chemical products contain carbon from fossil resources". https://lnkd.in/edYMm5Cr 🌲The publication calls for a ‘green carbon mandate’ on chemical products that would encourage chemical manufacturers to increase the percentage of carbon from non-fossil or recycled sources in their products. One striking analysis highlights the consequences of sticking to the fossil-based pathway for ethylene production: 📈 "The UK could electrify its steam crackers, remove process emissions with carbon capture and storage technology (CCS) and lock away 65 per cent or more of the embedded carbon in long lasting products or landfill. Even after this, the [ethylene-making] process would still be left with emissions of 3 MtCO2 per year due to embedded fossil carbon and energy consumption, which is equivalent to the carbon footprint of around 400,000 average UK citizens." ⚗🔧 The report flags the need for low-cost e-chemicals derived from non-fossil sources as key to a carbon-neutral (or even carbon-negative) UK.
