FAQs

Google Fiber 2 Gig internet provides faster internet speeds than our 1 Gig product. It comes with Wi-Fi 6 coverage so customers can make the most of their internet throughout their home.2 Gig includes:
  • Downloads of up to 2 gigabits per second and uploads of up to 1 gigabit per second (up to 2 gigabits per second in select markets)
  • Includes Wi-Fi 6 Google Fiber Multi-Gig Router and a Mesh Extender
  • Free professional installation
  • No data caps, contracts, or hidden fees
  • Only $100/month

Google Fiber 5 Gig is even faster for truly pro-at-home speeds. For comparison, 5 Gig has speeds up to 5x faster than Google Fiber 1 Gig (with compatible equipment). It’s currently rolling out in Kansas City, Utah, Mesa and West Des Moines, and will be expanding to more cities throughout 2023.5 Gig comes with all the features of Google Fiber 2 Gig, only faster. To make the most of 5 Gig speeds (see: uploads and downloads at up to 5,000 Mbps), you’ll need an ethernet connection to devices capable of going that fast.We know that you have Wi-Fi devices, too, so 5 Gig comes with the Google Fiber Multi-Gig Router and up to two Mesh Extenders for mesh Wi-Fi 6 coverage. But if you have a need for 5 Gig, you might also have a favorite router, so we’ve made it easy to use your own by plugging it directly into the professionally-installed 10 Gig Fiber Jack.5 Gig is only $125, plus applicable taxes and fees and includes:
  • Downloads and uploads of up to 5 gigabits per second
  • Includes Google Fiber Multi-Gig Router and up to two Mesh Extenders
  • Free professional installation
  • No data caps, contracts, or hidden fees

Google Fiber 8 Gig is our fastest speed (so far) with an up to 8000 megabits per second symmetrical connection. It’s all the features of 5 Gig with a GFiber Wi-Fi 6E Router and up to two mesh extenders. Connect via ethernet to devices capable of up to 8 gigabits for truly pro-at-home speeds. For comparison, 8 Gig has speeds up to 8x faster than Google Fiber 1 Gig (with compatible equipment). It’s currently rolling out in Kansas City, Utah, Mesa and West Des Moines, and will be expanding to more cities.8 Gig comes with all the features of Google Fiber 2 Gig, only faster. To make the most of 8 Gig speeds (uploads and downloads at up to 8,000 Mbps), you’ll need an ethernet connection to devices that are ready for these speeds. It includes the 10 Gig Fiber Jack, so it’s also easy to use your own router.8 Gig is only $150, plus applicable taxes and fees and includes:
  • Downloads and uploads of up to 8 gigabits per second
  • Includes Google Fiber Multi-Gig Router and up to two Mesh Extenders
  • Free professional installation
  • No data caps, contracts, or hidden fees

People are always doing more with their internet. We know that not everyone will have the kind of equipment, file sizes, or number of connections that can make the most of 5 Gig. However, if you’ve got a lot of data to move very quickly, you’ll appreciate having up to 5000 megabits per second in both directions. And with 8 Gig, our fastest speed yet, you get even more speed and capacity for extremely large, concurrent file transfers – and near real-time connection to cloud applications. Our testers have said lossless video, raw image files, music production including stems, VFX and a whole lot more – but we look forward to hearing what you want to do with that kind of speed.

All of our internet plans are great for online gaming and streaming ultra high-def content. It comes down to how many people and devices are connecting, and how fast the services you’re using are actually sending content. Some game servers and many streaming services aren’t currently sending data faster than 2 Gig. So we recommend 5 Gig or 8 Gig for people who are focused on cutting-edge use cases and gigantic file transfers.Of course, if you’re streaming 8K at the same time your roommate is collaborating with indie filmmakers around the country real time with lossless raw files, and your game console is grabbing a system update – you won’t mind having these professional-grade speeds at home.

Wi-Fi 6E is up to 3x faster speeds on compatible devices when compared to Wi-Fi 6. Both Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 also introduce an additional, new frequency band in the 6 GHz range. This makes it a tri-band technology with 4x the bandwidth, allowing for up to 1.6 Gbps speeds on compatible devices.Wi-Fi 6E also features a WPA3 security option, the latest standard in network encryption. So you can rest easy knowing you're protected by the best of what network security has to offer. We currently offer Wi-Fi 6E technology with our 2, 5, and 8 Gig plans. You can refer to the chart below for a quick look at the differences between all of the frequency bands.Wi-Fi Technologies

Wi-Fi 6Uses 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bandsUp to 800 Mbps on a modern smartphoneUp to 50% faster than Wi-Fi 5Supports more devices at a greater distance than previous generations
