Business Development Manager (Germany)


Our client is a multinational IPP specialized in developing, constructing, commercializing, and operating large-scale renewable energy projects with a presence in fast-growing markets in Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia and Africa. The company has 1.8 GW under operation or under construction and a pipeline of 15 GW under development.

With one of the top-3 largest private equity firms worldwide as their majority shareholder, they have set Germany as a core market and strategic priority – aimed at growing, both organically and through M&A operations, a country platform with 1 GW of contracted projects and a pipeline of 5 GW under development during the next 3 years.


About the Job


They are looking for a Business Development Manager to join the Business Development Department and to lead origination activities in Germany.


Reporting to the Country Manager for Germany and Northern Europe, this role will lead the generation of business in the area and will be in charge of analyzing the essential, strategic and key points for each market and deal in order to be successful in the development of new projects.

Your Role

  • Leadership and management of the origination team in Germany.
  • Capacity to understand and play a key role in financial modelling tasks.
  • Leading search for new projects, new deals and new markets / segments – including greenfield projects (new locations to develop from scratch), mid-stage projects (up to a certain development stage) and RTB projects.
  • Leading assessment of both organic and M&A opportunities to ensure sizeable growth of the company in Germany.
  • Leading due diligence processes with internal teams and external advisors.
  • Market analysis and continuous research of new opportunities and assessment of the regulatory environment.
  • Identify areas of business generation in the country; identifying connection points, designing the strategy to win potential auctions / tenders (both public and private).
  • Searching for and implementing solutions, in coordination with all interacting teams such as Energy Commercialization, EPC, M&A, Project Finance… that ensure the viability of projects from the investment and financing point of view.
  • Coordination of all technical-economic inputs and optimization of project returns.
  • Leading the participation and value offer in competitive processes to obtain energy sales contracts, connection points, land… in close collaboration with the corresponding functional areas.
  • Relations with the different stakeholders in the country in which it carries out business development tasks (public or private institutions, commercialization companies, off-takers, energy transporters or distributors, public bodies, …).
  • Attending local and national events such as conferences, trade shows, summits… growing and improving the business network for the company.


Your Profile

  • Bachelor´s degree or Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Engineering.
  • 5-10 years of experience in business development in the energy sector, especially focused on the solar photovoltaic market.
  • Knowledge of the energy market and renewable energy sector is essential (PV is a must, Wind/BESS are a plus).
  • German market knowledge, industry contacts and existing network.
  • Extremely high proactivity, open personality and opportunity-hunting approach.
  • Passionate about the development of renewable energies.
  • Accustomed to working with a high level of autonomy, goal orientation and business creation.
  • High willingness to travel in Germany. The position requires being in the field approximately 40% of the time.
  • Travelling to german office on a weekly basis (incase of HO/ usind Mindspace office in Germany)
  • Fluent in German.
  • High level of oral and written English.
  • Commercial skills to develop and execute agreements.
