Role: BESS Engineer

Location: Munich, Germany (Hybrid/Remote Working)

Piper Maddox is supporting an international photovoltaic company with offices in seven countries. They develop and deliver clean energy solutions based on photovoltaic systems along the entire value chain – from project development and financing, construction, operation and maintenance to energy management. Their mission is to contribute to a consistent, global energy transition.

Your Tasks

• Technical Supervision: Oversee BESS projects from concept to completion, including technical specification, selection of components, system dimensioning, and grid integration.
• Performance Optimization: Use advanced modeling and simulation tools to enhance BESS performance, maximize energy storage efficiency, and improve grid stability and reliability.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulations, codes, and safety protocols.
• Research and Innovation: Stay updated on developments in battery energy storage technology and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Design Review: Evaluate EPC contractor designs.
• Technical Due Diligence: Conduct technical assessments during M&A processes.

Your Competencies

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
• Proven experience in the design, implementation, and optimization of Battery Energy Storage Systems, preferably in a renewable energy or utility-scale context.
• Strong technical expertise in battery technologies, power electronics, energy management systems, and grid integration strategies.
• Proficiency in modeling and simulation software tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, ETAP, and Energy Storage System (ESS) software platforms.
• Fluent in English; German is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
• Structured way of working.
