Happy Pride! As we close Pride Month I was so proud to march with my OPWA colleagues. Special thanks to Margie Chung for organizing our involvement in the parade and to Max Ross, P.Eng. for his support and allyship as the Chair and President-Elect of Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA) We were a small but mighty group and had a tonne of fun!!🏳️🌈👷♀️🏳️⚧️ Along with Margie and Max I can’t appreciate enough Denise McGoldrick Don Kudo Sabine Matheson Jeffery Silcox-Childs Justin Readman Sanwal Gilani Melissa Chaves Chetan Shah, P.Eng. and our friends and family members who gave up part of their long weekend to show the world that there are 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Public Works and at OPWA we welcome all. #torontopride #opwa #apwa

A reminder that the first ever OPWA march in the Toronto Pride Parade will take place on June 30th. March with us and be a part of this historic event.  The event is FREE and you will receive a t-shirt and pride umbrella.   The OPWA march has been organized by the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee to demonstrate support for our stated Values: "OPWA supports and promotes a fully diverse workforce, equitable employment opportunities and an inclusive work environment for all public works organizations across Ontario and in the delivery of public works services to the communities that our members serve."   To join our march you can simply send an email to us with "OPWA Pride March" in the email subject line and contact our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee Chair, Max Ross: MaxARoss@outlook.com, or contact the OPWA President, Jennifer Rose at JennRose@regionofwaterloo.ca   It's hard to imagine that in its approximately 30 year history, this will be the first formal OPWA Pride march. By marching with us on June 30th you can help us demonstrate that public works agencies support an inclusive work environment for LGBTQ2S+ people. 

The OPWA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee will be holding a conference on October 24th, 2024. As part of our work of advancing DEI in the public works industry and supporting our members in creating inclusive workplaces, the theme will be Inclusive Leadership to support new Canadians in workplaces. We are currently seeking speakers for the event - please reach out if you are interested in speaking as a panelist!
