About us
Noosa Shire Council is a local government authority in the state of Queensland Australia located 140 km north of Brisbane. Noosa Shire Council is a local government authority in the state of Queensland Australia. Situated at the northern tip of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Noosa Shire covers an area of 871 square kilometres and is home to more than 54,000 people. The Traditional Owners and original custodians of the land were the Kabi Kabi / Gubbi Gubbi people. Noosa Shire Council was re-established as a local government on January 1, 2014. It followed a hard-fought community campaign over several years to restore its shire following the amalgamation of three sunshine coast councils in 2008. Noosa Shire has an economy that is diversifying beyond a thriving tourism industry. It is recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere and has a proud history of preserving its natural environment. Thirty five percent of the Shire is protected as either national park, reserve or conservation area.

The new ferry has arrived ⚓✅ A picture perfect Noosa afternoon marked the arrival of the first Noosa North Shore vehicle ferry yesterday! One of the old ferries has been removed this morning. 📆 The new ferry should be ready to commence service this Saturday. The second ferry will be in place by next week. 👏 Thanks to our team for making such a seamless transition! Work is finished ahead of schedule and within budget. Noosa's Doggy Beach is back! 🐾 In partnership with Hall Contracting, the exceptional sand renourishment project has restored Noosa Spit and now provides better long-term protection to the coastline. Here are a few of the things the team accomplished: 🔹 Redirected the river's flow to safeguard the beach. 🔹 Replenished the shoreline with approximately 85,000m3 of sand. 🔹 Reinforced Noosa Spit as a critical coastal defence. 🔹 Kept a navigable channel for our boating community during the works. Check out the video to see how the project ended up.

🌧️ Staff put through their paces. A critical part of being well-prepared for a significant weather event is ensuring our staff are primed and ready to respond. 📋 Facilitated by Mike Morrison, about 45 staff were taken through a range of scenarios to hone their skills and better understand the roles within the Local Disaster Coordination Centre. 🏠 It was also an opportunity to check out the new purpose-built Local Disaster Coordination Centre, based at Council's Noosaville depot. CEO Larry Sengstock said "It's important we are all on the same page in coordinating the response to a major event and sessions like this are vital in helping the Noosa LDMG to be ready to respond to natural disasters."
