It was terrific to have Dr Vicki Fleming from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust join us at ESCMID - European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and present two abstracts highlighting AusDiagnostics respiratory panels' successful detection of atypical pneumonia targets like Pneumocystis jirovecii and Legionella. One particularly intriguing study revealed the presence of a rare variant of Legionella—Legionella longbeache—in Europe. Traditionally believed to be endemic to Australia, this pathogen has now entered the European population. Its role in hospital cases of atypical pneumonia is a new and vital discovery.

From High School to where with the Granbots. AusDiagnostics is honoured to support the Granville Boys High School robotics team, a group of young individuals who have dedicated countless hours to coding and driving. Our Engineer R&D Team Leader, Luke Ramos, had the privilege of visiting Granville to witness their progress before they embarked on the FIRST Robotics Challenge (FRC) in the Hawkesbury. There, they competed fiercely against National and International teams over a span of honing their skills in robot design and construction journey over four days. The competition was no walk in the park. The teams were tasked with creating a robot with autonomous coding capabilities. This robot had to launch game pieces into goals and lift itself off the ground. It was a true test of the team's skills and ingenuity. The Granbot was moving smoothly and fast, but, unfortunately, the shooter couldn't get adequate power. Despite not achieving the results they had initially aimed for, the team remains undeterred. They have identified areas for improvement, which they will focus on before the next competition in Sydney and their upcoming journey to the USA. This resilience and determination are what make them a formidable force in the world of robotics. "FRC is providing students an insight into what careers in STEM look like in ways that most will only see late into a university degree. It’s incredible to see Granville Boys providing students with the philosophies, values and foundations for a successful STEM career." – Luke Ramos, AusDiagnostics Senior Engineer.

Human Papillomaviruses (HPV) is proven to be a significant cause of cervical cancer. Molecular screening of 14 high-risk HPV is recommended for early detection of cervical, precancer, and cancer and identification of risk groups developing thereof. The IARC - International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization highlight the work to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem by 2100; all countries must reach and maintain an incidence rate of fewer than 4 new cases of cervical cancer per 100,000 women per year. Achieving that goal rests on three key pillars and their corresponding targets: • Vaccination: 90% of girls are fully vaccinated with the #HPV vaccine by the age of 15 years. • Screening: 70% of women screened using a high-performance test by the age of 35 years and again by the age of 45 years. • Treatment: 90% of women with precancer treated and 90% of women with invasive cancer managed. Disease Spotlight. Health authorities on alert for Legionnaires' disease in Sydney, Australia! It is often difficult to distinguish #Legionnaires' disease from other types of pneumonia by symptoms alone. Chest X-rays help diagnose pneumonia, but diagnosing Legionnaires' disease requires special tests like one of four offered by #AusDiagnostics TandemPlex® range containing legionella targets for a time-critical #diagnosis. Read the full press release here, https://lnkd.in/dqwjbRdg. Or, explore AusDiagnostics TandemPlex® range containing legionella targets https://lnkd.in/g2RhmUdD.

Our enviable view of the iconic Sydney skyline now features a shiny, technological foreground after installing 415 solar panels at our headquarters to reduce environmental impact. The network of panels will reduce our accountable emissions by 95%, preventing 169 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year. This is the equivalent of planting more than 32,000 trees. Check out #AusDiagnostics' latest news and other sustainable initiatives in our recent newsletter: https://lnkd.in/dwFFKv6S. #environmentalsustainability #moleculardiagnostics #reducecarbonfootprint
