According to Martyn Tickner, Chief Advisor Circular Solutions Alliance to End Plastic Waste, the challenge is to figure out how to take action to accelerate the transition we need in the industry. The current #recycling system is driven by what is available, not what is really needed. Working on a new approach that prioritizes quality and creates a market pull for better recycled materials will lead to clearer guidelines, better technology, and better designed products. According to the latest “Circular Economy for Plastics – A European Analysis” report by Plastics Europe, the transition towards greater plastic circularity in Europe has seen a significant acceleration between 2018 and 2022. The recycling rate reached 26.9% in 2022 (8.7 Mt): for the first time, more plastic waste is #recycled than landfilled. Although this is an important milestone in #circularity, further investment in sorting infrastructures and #recycling technologies is needed. #Plastics continue to be strategically important to the European economy, with applications in almost every sector. Taking a holistic approach, #TaghleefIndustries supports the supply chain and responds to societal demands by developing alternative solutions based on a circular plastics economy. #TogetherWeInnovateForFutureGenerations
Interesting insights from the latest Circular Economy for Plastics report! Agriculture, farming, and gardening lead the way with 41.7% circular content in plastics. The building and construction sector follows at 29.9%. 🌱🏗️ While recycled plastics from chemical recycling are still gaining ground, they are being utilized in high-performance applications across packaging, automotive, and construction sectors. 🚗📦 Let's continue driving innovation and sustainability in the plastics industry! #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #PlasticsIndustry #Innovation 🔗bit.ly/3Tpv0u1

Is it technically possible to extrude quality #PP thin films with post-consumer mechanically recycled PP content? #TaghleefIndustries has produced a #WrapAround label film for PET bottles with 30% mechanically recycled post-consumer PP. While mechanically recycled post-consumer PP is not currently approved for direct food contact applications, this does not limit its use in non-food contact applications. In this case the #label is applied to a PET bottle where the bottle itself serves as a barrier. At its end of life, the bottle can be collected and recycled in the current PET streams. The technology promotes the use of materials, such as post-consumer PP, that have already fulfilled their primary purpose and improves by using a high-quality recyclate, which is obtained from the initial #packaging design. Accelerating technology development and fostering collaboration within the industry is key to jointly addressing the problem of #PlasticWaste ending up in landfills and incinerators, reducing dependence on virgin raw materials, and promoting circularity. The innovative solution was a finalist in the #PlasticsRecyclingAwards Europe 2024 and demonstrates how it is possible to close the loop and retain the value of the source material. #TogetherWeInnovate

Derprosa™ #bioBLUE is #TaghleefIndustries' version of #LaminatingFilms that contribute to the use of plastic resins from second-generation vegetable feedstocks. 30% of the resins used in the production of these films come from waste cooking oils. Currently, two different origins of these vegetable oils can be distinguished from which polypropylene resins of the same quality as traditional fossil-based resins can be obtained: ◼️ First-generation BIO raw material: comes from natural vegetable oils that have had no other use, such as those obtained from plants and seeds ◼️ Second-generation BIO raw material: comes from natural vegetable oils that have already been used for cooking #Derprosa™ bioBLUE uses 30% #biobased resins obtained from second-generation BIO raw materials.
